Flight and Transfers
Direct flights from Gatwick to Goa Dabolim Airport take approximately 12 hours.
Visa Requirements
You must obtain a visa before travelling to India. If you arrive without a visa, you will be refused entry. British Citizens travelling to India require a full British passport which must be valid for 6 months after departure from this country. All children and infants must also have their own passports. Please check up to date visa requirements with the Foreign Office. It’s worth pointing out that the visa of valid from the day it is issued rather than the day you arrive and you must take this into account when applying for a visa.
Language
India has a total of 22 official languages – the most in the world. English functions as a de facto common language, so in most places you’ll be fine even if you have literally no experience in any of the Indian languages.
Transportation
India is enormous, and trying to travel long distances with any hope of speed or efficiency will require flying. Given the relatively iconic nature of the Indian railway, you may like to spend some time travelling on it. It’s recommend you buy tickets well in advance and choose the most expensive carriage you can afford – this is especially true if you travelling long distance. Travelling through the different states can be accomplished fairly easily. The more upmarket buses will have air-conditioning.
Currency
The Indian Rupee is the official currency.
