Polly and Simon share their fifth trip to Tobago

Polly and Simon travelled to Tobago and stayed at Turtle Beach by Rex Resorts. Here's what they had to say:

I’ve been to Tobago five times now, and keep coming back for more thanks to its fabulous climate, crystal clear waters, and amazing marine life. The warmth and friendliness of the locals really makes you feel welcome, too.

Turtle Beach hotel was certainly excellent value for money – it’s located on a beautiful beach and every room has a view of the sea at no extra cost. Esther and Glenda, who have worked at the hotel for years, really stood out for us.

We definitely recommend leaving the confinements of your hotel and exploring Tobago for yourself – hire a car, visit local shops, and check out all the landscapes – we love the lush rainforest and hidden beaches on the island.

Tobago is all about local Caribbean food but sadly you don’t really get that in the hotels, so a visit to Sunday School is a must if you want to try authentic cuisine. I even tried armadillo at the Blue Food Festival!

We took a fabulous trip to Nylon Pool, which was really beautiful and certainly wowed us, and enjoyed a fun evening limbo dancing and tucking into a BBQ on No Man’s land beach. We also went on an Island Girl catamaran trip, which took us through hidden coves and gave us plenty of snorkelling opportunities.

The wildlife in Tobago is amazing, we were given the opportunity to feed hummingbirds at Adventure Farm, swam with stingrays, but the biggest wow moment for us was seeing leatherback turtles lay their eggs on Turtle Beach, which was an incredible memory.

If you’re thinking of heading to Tobago, don’t expect western standards of service – instead a big smile and a laid back expectation will get you far.
